San Francisco, CA - March 2, 2005 - Jeremy Cohen and his ViolinJazz Quartet are pleased to announce that The Tiburon International Film Festival (TIFF) has chosen them as honorary guests and performers on opening night of the Fourth Annual Tiburon International Film Festival. The Festival will take place at the Tiburon Playhouse Theater the week of March 10-18, 2005.
As a special tribute to film and music artists in a unique new category, TIFF asked Cohen and his ViolinJazz Quartet to play selections featured in his new DVD short documentary, Jeremy Cohen and Friends Celebrate Joe Venuti: 100 Years at its opening night gala reception at the Corinthian Yacht Club, following the screening of the film "Happy Hour" at the Tiburon Playhouse Theater.
At the reception, clips from Cohen's film, which celebrates the life and work of pioneer jazz violinist Giuseppe "Joe" Venuti (1903-1978), will also be shown. Produced by elfenworks (www.elfenworks.com), the DVD will be released this spring by Video Artists International (VAI) and will be available through retail outlets and online vendors.
"We are delighted to have Jeremy Cohen's Violin Jazz Quartet to perform at our opening night party as well as to show a documentary on the group made by two very talented filmmakers Lauren Speeth and Dan Coplan during this event, " says TIFF. About Joe Venuti
As the true pioneer of jazz violin, Joe Venuti played with such greats as Eddie Lang, Red Nichols, Jimmy Dorsey and Frank Signorelli of the original Dixieland Jazz Band in the 1920s. Originally trained in the classical style at an early age, Venuti developed his own purist jazz violin style that continues to inspire jazz violinists around the world.
